My daughter Fianna introduced me to St Mellangell. I have always had a fascination with St Francis of Assisi . Not just his encounters with animals and God's creation , but his love for people and God.
My daughter had a knack for reading about obsure saints. And one day this introduced us both to St Melengell.
When I was a child ( in the days of looser laws) I was a rehabilitator with the Cincinnati Zoo's raise and release program. The love for raising and releasing stuck with me even though my life led me away from it, or so it seemed. It seemed animals in need still found their way to my door. As explained in another post, I found myself back in the rehab world.
St Melangell is the patron saint of hares, rabbits and small mammals. So I choose to name my small mammal facility after her. Many times I have prayed for an animal. For its wounds to mend. For a medication to kick in. For guidance on if euthanasia is needed. I hope she prays with me, petitioning our Creator.
