This is Kris. He is an North American Mink. A male.  A Technically I am not "supposed" to name wildlife.  I get it.  It can make them appear to the public as a pet. But trust me . Wildlife is no pet.  They may be cute and fuzzy .. but once those hormones kick in they will tear you and your house up . But I personally also need something other than a number. Because I am just one of those people who has to name things. My car even has a name.  Granted.. when I get multiples of something .. Like Cottontails, I normally name them their color as each is marked for daily weight checks. etc. Anyhow. .. Kris was clipped by a car a few weeks back and was comatose.  He had a few issues from it. Some tooth damage, a back leg that was slow to respond to Deep Pain stimulation, and of course head trauma .  HE got stabilized here and then was originally transferred to Bruckner Nature Center for a week or so to get some care. To be honest, I did not know what was normal for an adult mink, as he was my first wild one.  So it was in his best interest to see a rehabber who is more experienced in his species.

But as he progressed.. they offered to send him back to finish recouping and I did my research and jumped on it.  Every few days I give him some sort of extra enrichment. Swimming, a container of snow, a box of dirt to dig in.. etc etc. Today.. was a BIG container of water. Not the pool he probably would prefer but he wont be indoors forever. Just till he finishes his worm medications. He was loaded in whips and hooks. Blech.  Anyhow.. please enjoy this video. Don't forget to like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube Channel.

Sometimes.. a video is worth a thousand words. So I will be brief.  I will say though. Pipsqueak was my first squirrel. He got me back on this path. He was found as a newborn. His siblings were reunited with mom. Mom did not take him for some reason. Anyhow, I took a picture of him every Sunday morning to watch the changes. It was an wonderful opportunity. I have still shots up to 6 weeks in collage form if a Rehabber would like them for training. After eyes opened he started being handled less. Because while friendly squirrels are the things fairy tales are made of.. it does not work out well in the real world. They get grumpy, demand food,  and scare people . We don't want that .  We want wild squirrels. Not habituated.  I may post those collages at a later date. Interestingly,  He turned out to be Silver as a baby and Juvenile. Molted into a normal color. So.. if your aging your baby Eastern Grey squirrel and yours looks "darker" it probably is . Enjoy.
